TOURISM IN SOMALILAND
The Republic of Somaliland has always been mapped as an area rich in both natural and prehistoric attractions whose promise mesmerizes tourists and archeologists alike. There is untold, untapped, unspoiled, pristine locations which hold great value at the national and international for a as cradles of civilization and tourist attraction sites.
Somaliland is well-known for its historical sites, which are important archaeological treasures. Some historians have mentioned historical sites such as Xiis, Zeylac, Abassa, Siyara, and later Bulhar as being important for trade in the Horn of Africa.
ZEILA
Many sources in various languages agree that Zeila is one of the oldest cities in Somaliland, as well as in the Horn of Africa. The city now has a historic site that notably comprises the Qiblatain Mosque (which is arguably the oldest mosque in Africa, at the time of its inception, after the migration of the Prophet to Medina).
The mosque dates back to the time when the Companions fled to Medina with their faith and beliefs, and the Prophet erected the first mosque in the city. For the first sixteen months after the Hijra (Migration), the Qibla of the Muslims for prayers was Jerusalem (they faced Jerusalem when performing their prayers). Then the Apostle of Allah received Wahi (Revelation) commanding Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) to change the orientation point from Qudus in the north to Makkah in the south.
MAYDH
ayd is a seaside town in the Sanaag region, located around 90 kilometers west of the route Xiis (also referred to as Mundus) along the shore. There is a pastoral area between Maydh and Xis where camels and sheep can be found. Wild life abounds in the Savannah region between Xiis and Maydh, including ostriches, gazelle, and deer. Maydh has been known for its fishing port for a long time. Maydh is also renowned for its ancient buildings and Maydh’s ancient seaport, which dates back thousands of years.

The Rabshigga Mountain (known as bird Dropping Island) a little hilly island at the bottom of the sea northwest of Maydh, is a stunning natural landscape. Thousands of birds migrate from the Far East and North of the globe to this peak during the cold winter months. They leave hundreds of tons of feces behind when they emigrate or return back– which is often utilized as fertilizer by Locals as well las fishermen in the Gulf of Aden.
The region is noted for its frankincense and natural incense production, which is strongly dependent on the Sanaag region’s economy. Maydh and other cities are key sources of revenue for the region, carrying commodities to the Arabian countries.

The city has a long and rich history, and is home to several archaeological sites, including the ruins of the ancient city of Sabratha. Berbera is also known for its natural beauty, including its beaches, coral reefs, and mountains.
